During the week commencing 3 March 2008, a group of young people from all over
the district have been taking part in Safer Ryedale’s Life Project.
The Life Project sees young people of secondary school age spending a week at Kirbymoorside Fire Station, experiencing all aspects of the work of the Fire and Rescue service and developing team work and other important life skills.
PC Stewart Ashton, Coordinator of the project explained more: “Ten young people from Ryedale have taken part in the Life project this year, all of whom were individually selected as being ideal for the course. Life gives the group an opportunity to develop team work and to spend a week developing skills such as anger management in a work orientated, stimulating environment, learning about the Fire Service, and what is involved in the daily work of a Fire Officer”.
Nan Harding, Community Risk Officer added: “The week is incredibly intensive and all the young people taking part have done extremely well.”
“The tasks are hard work and it is essential that the group demonstrate excellent communication skills and display effective team work.” “All the group certainly did that and it was a pleasure to have them on the Life Project this year.”
PC Ashton added;
“We hope all who participated learnt from all aspects of their training but also good memories and better equipped for the future”.
