Priorities

  • Safer Roads   ( 1 Articles )
A priority for the partnership in the coming three years is to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in road traffic collisions on the roads in Ryedale. Local observations indicate that the majority of incidents on the roads in Ryedale are vehicle collisions with the younger male drivers, with speed or inexperience being key factors. Another overwhelming attribute is the use of motorcycles. Out of 5 fatalities in 2007 -3 had involved riders of motorcycles over 125cc. It is a priority for the partnership to reduce these numbers and make roads in Ryedale safer for their users.
  • Domestic Abuse   ( 1 Articles )
Domestic Violence has been highlighted as a priority for the coming three years and the Partnership aims to significantly reduce reports of this crime type and re offending in the coming three years. Between 1 October 2006 and 30 September 2007 there were 145 incidents reported to the police, this was a reduction of 93 incidents on the previous year, however we aim to further our work under this priority.
  • Community Priorities   ( 1 Articles )

This priority aims to target all behaviour that is detrimental to the community and reduces the quality of life for people living in the areas. Examples of such problems include burglary, criminal damage, youth related behaviour, anti social behaviour alcohol and substance misuse. To date the wards most affected are: Pickering East, Sherburn and Kirkbymoorside and these will be priority areas for the partnership to target.  Distraction burglaries continue in small numbers and targeting older people usually. There is a regular pattern of criminal damage occurring in relation to the night-time economy and along a clearly defined `migratory` route home from Malton and Pickering town centres.

  • Alcohol Harm Reduction   ( 1 Articles )
This priority aims to direct a reduction in all behaviour that is fuelled by alcohol and predominantly occurs at the times when licensed premises are vacating, including violence, criminal damage, domestic abuse, sexual offences and Anti Social Behaviour. According to the `North Yorkshire and York Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy` document for 2008-2011, Ryedale district is below the national average in all eight areas measured for rates of alcohol related occurrences when comparing districts with the English average but this does not mean that negative behaviour fuelled by alcohol should be tolerated.
